so lately I've headrd a lot of things sabout shaving the fins off the airbox. Does this really work performance wise? If so it it as easy as simpply clipping the fins off and re assembling?

Yes...
trim the fins, and the fin in the oval opening, then put a piece of PVC in the intake(I used a 3in-3in coupler) Then do the free ram air mod.
