I just started hearing a tivking sound coming from my engine. My oil pressure is 60psi at cruising speeds and around 40 psi at idle, so i dont think its an oil pressure problem. I did wait a little to long before the last oil change(5,000 miles), but i recently got a fresh oil change and the problem percists. Any ideas? Im hoping if its anything internal that its a rocker or lifter because that will give me an excuse to through all new valvetrain parts in there.
EDIT: It seems to be only noticable or more noticable as the engine gets hotter if that helps at all.
i was thinking exhaust leak, since i have a crapy ubolt on the driver side connection on the pacesetter ypipe. when i rev the engine to about 2 grand it speeds up but gets harder to hear, and then as the rpms are coming down, the noise is gone until it steadies at idle then the noise just comes back again. So loudest at idle, quiet as rpms are up, and silent when rpms come down. It went away for the most part now but it comes back every now and then at a lesser rate. I guess if its gone before i store it for the winter im going to pretend like it never happened.
And what are your feelings on going synthetic with 96k miles?
well seafoam pretty much solved the problem. it comes a little when the engine is really hot, so another 100 miles with the stuff and the ticking should be gone completely and ill be ready for a fresh oil change.
Some have had no problem with converting to synthetic at high milage (myself included) and some have reported leakage problems.
Seems like a crap shoot and the proper statement should be:
"possibility of leaks developing"
