  • Parting out an SS

There is a guy parting out an 2000 SS. What should I look for to upgrade my 3.8? I was thinking hood, driveshaft, differential and springs. Anything else?

springs would be for a v8 so might not be great, check in suspension. Get seats (if upgrade), whole rear, hood, exhaust (if upgrade), interior, etc. It all depends on what you want. If you want to upgrade the looks go for the hood, seats, interior, etc. If you want performance go for the rear or motor, etc. Suspension wise you'll have to check with suspension forum because you cant just mix and match, though i believe some parts match.

SS seats are probably leather. his may not be leather so it would be an upgrade.

He told me there is a 3in crack on the hood. Is that an easy and affordable fixit?

A fiberglass guy should be able to fix it, but then you'd need repainting. Maybe 100 bucks or so for the fix and then whatever paint/labor is.

Oem hoods are much better then aftermarket (although heavier i believe) because of the fitment problems associated with it. After buying an aftermarket (500-750 for a quality one) and then painting it (300-500) it would still be better imoho to pay up to 800 or so max for it and having it fixed, prepped and painted for around 300-500.

Being that it is cracked, you should be far below 800 i'd assume.

Seat upgrade would be if they were leather or powered or nicer then his.
