  • Security System Issue

Well the problem is my security system (stock 1996 camaro) keeps screwing me over. AT RANDOM I will be driving along and the security light on the dash will come on and then randomly go off again at any time. Sometimes driving, sometimes stoped doesent matter. But just the light acting up I dont care but thats not all. Sometimes when I get in to start my car the security light will come on JUST as I put my key in and turn it and it will imobilize the motor untill the lights goes off. The light takes exactly 4:59 seconds to turn off. Belive me while sitting waiting in my car for this light to go off you are pretty bored so I timed it. Anyways I thought ok it could be the resistor pellet in my key... so I have a spare set of keys. I started using those keys and it still triped the security light and wouldent let me start the car untill it goes out.

This happens fairly often. say maby 30% of the time when i get in my car and try to start it... it will trip the security. ive tried putting the key in and turning it slowly.. other ideas.. nothing works. This problem is VERY frustrating. Ive even thought of getting an aftermarket alarm but the installer at the sterio shop I like, East Hamilton Radio said its best to try and fix it first because if they have to use parts of the exsisting alarm it may still be a problem and I will have spend hundreds of dollers.

Any help would be GREAT, thanks guys and gals!

If its not the key, its probably the ignition. If you feel confident enough, you can try cleaning your ignition, and checking if all wires are connected tightly.

its supposed to sound the horn twice when you set the alarm. it might be intermittant cuz of a short or sumthing in the horn circuit. odd problem dude, sorry i cant help!

Try cleaning the resistor on your ignition key, with the eraser of a pencil.
