Very few engines need more than premium gasoline. You may want to fill with premium the tank before your night out as well as your night out-to give the computer a chance to adjust timing to the new octane level.

IF you need more than 92 octane, most octane boosters are repackaged toluene/xlyene (which you can buy at paint stores by the gallon cheaper than at autozone by the ounce).

I like to mix 1 gal "octane booster" with 1 gal gasoline in a 5 gal can before dumping it in the tank and filling up (this helps mixing and keeps the undiluted chemicals away from hoses/paint etc.

Every time I work out the costs, I cannot make low grade gasoline into 92 octane cheaper than buying the 92 octane to start out with (except for using low grade gas with a water/methanol "on demand" injection system)

Manganese based octane boosters do seem to work and do cause orange-brown deposits with some minimal effect on the catalytic converter and O2 sensors. Seem to be best suited to a "once in a while" type of use.

lol I posted that link several months ago (march/april), but the threads got closed for some reason; some moron (you know who you are) thought I was advertising for some chemical company.

but I've been using it ever since, with no problems. I also have xylene, but use that mainly for other chemistry applications (extractions, isolations, etc.), I just fuel up with 89.
