My air conditioning vents no longer blow air, whether the compressor is on or off. The air only comes out of the footwell area now. Someone told me that on our cars there is a motor or something that switches where the air comes out of and, when it stops working, it does what my car is doing.
The car is a 2000 Camaro...has anyone had to replace this? Tough job? Let me know, thx
You have a broken vaccum hose some where. All of our cars have done this.
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2245261 Green 1997, 105k, all stock except for Z28 front springs, Air shocks in the rear, home made coolant recovery tank, home made battery hold down.
It happened a few hours after I had some work done, so I took it back and they thought it was a vaccuum leak too. They couldn't find a leak, called an AC place nearby and the AC place told them about the motor thing I mentioned before, said it was common on our cars?
just in front of firewall on passenger side there is a small canester looking thing with three hoses attached about size of thumb check that for cracks had to go to dealer to show them part dont know what its called dont cost much there eather
Hi Guys,I had that same problem with mine and it make me dismantle the whole Dashboard looking for where I lost the vacuum, cause our AC vent Flaps are all control by vacuum you would normally hear the vacuum discharging as you switch the vent control.
I bought mine from Rockauto.com,it is called AC Vacuum Control Valve.
AC Delco Part No.14056648
Great it's a cheap part. So when you say that you had to take the dash apart was that because you were trying to find the problem or is the only way to get to this part through the dash? I didn't see it when I looked under the hood, but there's that big plastic cover over the AC stuff near the firewall.
Yes Hooch,I took the Dash off to find the problem, not to get the part as Kuttman said it's under the bonnet on the passenger side almost in the corner near the windshield,if you view the part from the part No. I give you, when you look under the bonnet trust me you will see it in that area, which I describe.
Hope this info helps,Goodluck.
It wasn't cracked but I figured it was worth a shot for that much money, so I bought the part and it worked! Thanks again guys, I still can't believe how easy that was and that I drove all summer with no AC!
That's how a forum should be very informative to help one another with problems, not being a PEST like some people we know, that someone else may encounter to make life alot easier.
I glad your problem is gone it's a pleasure to help others.
It happend to me also, replaced the valve, did not fix it, gonna take it to the dealer to fix it, unless you guys have anything else that you think it could be I am also gonna replace the top of the dash, FL heat had baked the last one and it is brittle. got a dash mat to hide it, but I hate the rattle caused by the loose piece's on the upper dash.
P.S. my A/C is blowing out the bottom, the defrost vent and the lil side window defrost vents. any idea's?
