• Here I go

I'm relatively new to this board and new to modifying cars for that matter... I have a 2000 V6 Camaro with 75k miles on it (Silver with t-tops). When I bought it, there was already dual exhaust on it but its nothing loud (no marked name on the muffley or pipes). Everything is basically stock except for the exhaust. With that said I have around $900 I want to spend to upgrade the car performance wise. I want to of course up the acceleration more so than the top end speed of my car. Basically I want to be able to keep up with V8 stangs in the long run, but for now I just want to know what my best bet is to see the most HP increase the cheapest and most effective way. My neighbor is a mechanic and will be installing everything with me since I hardly know much about cars but would like to. Any suggestions are extremely welcome! Thanks!

Forgot to mention for appearance I already have Altezza Rear Lights, Chrome Billet Grille, 5% tints, rear CAMARO painted black, and Reverse Glow Gauges.

Also, I've been reading a lot about the gears and what not. I presume my car has factory stock 3.08 gears, I would like to put in the gears best suited to make me get from 0 - 100 mph the quickest. I have heard switching to 3.73s or 3.42s. Which ones should I go with?

I was thinking about Pacesetter headers

Whats the best kind of highflow cat convert I can get, and what brand do you suggest for the catback exhaust?

I dont know what the CAI or lid is, like I said I'm just starting out with these terms

        pacesetter will work

catco cats are everywhere, check around

CAI is cold air intake, A lid is more or less the same thing

these things will let the car breath alot better. which is always good

i would go with the slp loudmouth system. its loud and is one of the best, flowmaster makes a good catback, and magna flow does too. i had a 3.4 with a flow master cat back, it sounded great.

the biggest thing to remember is that any exhaust you get will sound kinda ricey in the upper rpms, but until about 2500-3000 rpms it sounds great.

        hope this helps ya.

        welcome to the board btw.

For sound headers are good, but you have a 2000 which means you wont get much performance. Get gears (3.73/4.10 and lsd) which will be around 5-600 bucks installed. Remaining 300 get a catco/ carsound highflow cat (60-70 installed), do the free mods, and 230 worth of supspension mods.

Or, depending on you mechanical ability, you could do a cam change for about 900 if you do it yourself. Might even be able to get the cat too.

Check the mod section and read up on which exhaust is best, which cat is best, what gears you should get and search for anything you want to know because there are generally tons of people asking the same thing.

Also quick question, how can I tell if my car has the Y87 performance package? Not on the Carfax report.
