Hey guys need your help. I have a Y87 Conversion, but now I need a VIN that will correct my speedometer. The VIN I was given didn't work out. Wouldn't allow the car to start. So, if anyone could, please send me their VIN (In PM or E-mail if you don't want it floating around on the internet)
I have a 1998 model, with a T-5.

A Y87 conversion? Its just a LSD, different tires, crappy muffler, and V8 steering rack
Why would you need a VIN?
If you really need one I can give you mine, 96 Y87 M5 - 3.23s
same Auburn LSD and 4-wheel discs brakes are standard on your 98
I understand the VIN thing you need it for the speedo. In my experience it was impossible for GM dealers and local shops to reprogram a PCM. You would have better luck buying a new PCM I think, thats what I had to do.

Probably because it's now 3.42 gears and he wants the speedo and shift points correct.

I have a '98 y87, and I've given my vin out before, so that's no problem. But it's an automatic, so it won't help you...
Somebody on here should be able to cough one up for you. You might also try on the drivetrain forum and see if anything comes up over there.

Being that he has a M5 he won't have shift points.
There's really no point in calling it a Y87 conversion, he just installed a LSD

I definetly wouldn't go through the trouble of replacing my steering rack just to call it Y87

The Y87 is a performance package, rather than taking the time to list the new performance additions I've done or had done to the car, it's much easier to say I've got a Y87 (Conversion). Also, the 'conversion' should indicate to you that my car wasn't originally equipped with the parts I have in it now. So, you'd know that I started out with 3.08 open differential, and upgraded.
I have also added a few things that I feel the Y87 option should have included but didn't. So by saying I have a Y87 conversion, its a real easy way to say that I've done numerous modifications to the car, and that its now faster than stock.
Anyway, Your 2000 might be helpful. The 98-99 still had the slanted throttle body, and matched intake. So the computer might be different for a '00-'02. But I could try it out. The dealer can't simply reflash the computer without the VIN. I know this because I am having a GM Master Tech that works at the local dealership who does aftermarket upgrades on the side trying to correct the problem. So when he says he needs the VIN to reprogram the computer, I feel he knows what he's talking about. Especially with a multi-thousand dollar OBD-II master computer analyzer sitting in his lap.
Also, your car must be a manual transmission. But I thank you auto guys for offering. That's the way it should be.

dude, that sucks. i wonder why your other one didnt work. though i am glad to see you are not posting about your clutch going out on ya. but for some reason, i bet it will if you keep driving the car the way you do.
6s.......under the hood or under the belt, they just dont cut it.

You need the same year. Wiring going into the pcm changed each year. A wire on the socket that is a fuel injector one year, might be a maf sensor wire on a different year. You could check pinouts listed in the tech database on here to get an idea... Theoretically you could rewire your socket, or put a newer (matching) harness in, but that's a whole lot more work.
Also, the 98 throttle is cable, while the '99 up are electric. So a '99 up pcm would be trying to operate an electric throttle that's not even there on your car, and I'm sure the pcm would not be too happy about that... [img]smile.gif[/img]
