  • Can needing new oil affect gas mileage?

Hey guys, Ive got like $18 and I need to change my oil. Last time I changed it was a while ago, Ive got a low oil light. I used Quaker Q High RPM Synthetic. Is it AT ALL safe to put in regular oil? Im too broke to grab 5 qts of syn but its whats in there now. What should I do and like I asked b4, Im getting bad gas mileage lately, like 21mpg and its a V6! WTF?! Is this a reason why?

Regular oil is better than low and old synthetic oil anyday! One way to find out if you mileage increases is to change it...

Its fine, really the 3.8 is made for dyno not synth. The seals are techncially not made for synth but it works for the most part.

It depends on what oil weight you run, the thinner the easier it flows so les friction in the engine so more power is produced.

Oil changes are preventive maintance not performance mods... No you won't notice any performance difference unless you were REALLY low on oil... You might notice a gain then... and don't run synthetic for more than 5K miles... even if the lable says it can go 15k and all the crap... I would never trust ANY oil for more than 5K...

might wanna look more into why your low oil light is on...you're either leaking it or burning it.

Sometimes when oil gets old, the viscosity can thicken, which would penalize your gas mileage somewhat. Sometimes, the opposite happens [it thins out]. This shouldn't be happening too much with those oil change intervals, though.

Don't worry about mixing the oil types.
