  • a non-amateur question to fix my problem

please read all to fully understand the problem,

my car has had a problem with full acceleration sometimes. almost like flooring it with your e brake on, it goes through the rpms but not as fast as it should. sometimes it does great, other times its not so great.

sometimes when i start my car the car will sputter and sputter like no utter ;) (ha) anyway. it will hesitate really bad. it takes a long time to get the rpms up, since it is hesitating, but it eventually reaches 6000 rpms through first gear then it clears up for the rpms in second and the rest of the time drive my car. once i hit that rpm the hesitation problem is gone. then it sometimes proceeds to run good,

but sometimes when i step on it it just doesnt quite go through the rpms like it should, like i stated in the first paragraph.

the guy at the autoparts store I went to said he thinks its the injectors, or at least one of them. he thinks one is kinda sticky and when i mash the gas and go through the rpms its like i have 5 1/2 injectors working instead of 6.

he also said that when you first turn your key on the car primes with the fuel pump(i know that) and also lets one squirt of fuel into the cylinders. (not sure if thats right)

he said the "hesitation until going through the rpm range" is caused by that injector sticking open before i start the car thus causing the cylinder to load up with 7 psi of fuel from my line.

it seems like a legitimate theory and all, but i cant afford just throughing new injectors in to "see IF it works"

this obviously doesnt seem to be plugs, wires, fuel filter, since it only does it sometimes.

anyone have this problem before? thanks in advance

I'd go along with the fuel injector theory myself.

BUT... I had a very similar problem when I had my V6, it ended up being a coil pack. THe symptoms you gave are VERY similar, only it went from a constant bother like yours, to gradually worse, to 9.8 straight down in an hour of driving.

You should be able to test the injectors, right?

i had similar problems and 1 was coil pack and other was cat.if you have stock coils then upgrade to msd and if it is not the problem then at least you upgraded one part( and the price difference is like 5$ a coil so its not that bad)
help me build the ultimate sleeper soon ill have a lot more mods than i can list and watch out for the spikes. 02 firebird

What have you replaced recently, so we can rule stuff out. The injector theory is possible.

It could be many things, he is just going to have to start of with the most legit things first. Like testing the coil packs in different spots. Just switch them out to see if the problem gets fixed. Also, does your computer throw a SES light?

if it were a spark plug it would run crappy all the time, not barely run then later run good. (my guess anyway)

when i get the chance i will clean the coil packs plate with a brass brush and clean them completely. then throw some new plugs if i get the time.

i still need information on the injectors. what injectors did some of you replace yours with and how much did they cost. i dont want to lose my mileage so bigger injectors are something i dont want, performance minded stock injectors(meaning more efficient and a better design) may be a consideration.

i want to sell my car soon so i just want the problem taken care of and not looking to beef it up. my car has 171,000 miles on it now. it should last alot longer, but the little problems i have like this are very discouraging.

Is there a way to know if the injectors are clogged or bad? I have a similar problem, only not as bad as yours, though it seems to be reahcing to that point.

I'm replacing my rattling stock cat tonight with a new high-flow cat, so I'll see if that takes care of it, if not, I'm in the same boat as you.

Ok, so I replaced my cat, which I cinfirmed was indeed bad by all the **** that fell out of it when we took it out, and replaced it with a high flowing one. Seems to have solved my problems. I'm sure I could use a new something because it's still not quite right, but it's running reeeaaal good!

Hope this helps with your problems, seeing as how they sounded similar to mine.

I think I need my 02 sensors replaced too, things still aren't quite right yet. It'll run pretty good for a while, then be ****ty again with really low HP.

If it is a coil or spark plug problem there will be a log in your pcm. Plus the tech 2 that gm uses will show these problems. As for bad injectors that is more of a trial by error.
