  • SES light after some maintenance..? UPDATED

i changed my oil as always, and also cleaned/re oiled my k&n air filter, also topped off my power steering fluid yesterday. ran the car for a few minutes after i did that. then today i take it to school (40 min drive) everything is fine, and on my way home from school today the SES light comes on. any ideas why? it was pouring rain but i doubt that has anything to do with it.

There is no possible way to guess what the code is without having it scanned first, unless you were having problems within a certain area before. I highly doubt that an oil change and air filter cleaning would throw a code on you. Maybe an O2 sensor burned out or something. Go to autozone or buy a scanner and check it yourself. The OBD II scanners are getting cheaper by the month.

      stock plug wires?

after replacing the plugs it "solved" my misfire problem but after about an hour of driving the SES came back on.... code went off a couple days later but when i went and replaced the wires i went to pull out the #1 wire and it snapped in two.

I'd check for anything knocked loose basically. If that does'nt solve it go get it scanned at autozone.

OK nvm....saw your site and the fact you have MSD wires...

Just go get it scanned. or buy the scanner

I got mine on ebay a few years ago for $55 shipped. Now, you can probably get one for $40 shipped.
www.harborfreight.com has the OBD II scanners for $39.99.

one thing that you might take into concideration is that K&N filter owners some times put too much oil on there filter when cleaning it, causing the oil to get sucked from the filter and onto the Mass air flow sensor, it only takes a little bit to get on the sensor to have it throw a code.......

no, what happened was when i turned my car off to go into pepboys the SES light was on. then when i came back out and started the car the light was gone. weird coincidence.

or maybe i dont understand what youre asking.

vroom-chip: i think that was it. i dont think i oiled it too much when i recharged it but you never know i guess. either way, the light is off now.
