  • A list of problems/questions

    1. Steering wheel shakes at high speed braking. Driver front rotor has a semi deep wear cut in the middle. Some car jolt/rocking back and forth (front to back) when coming to stoplights when city driving. Warped rotors? Is that a free warranty fix?
    2. Manual car. When car is engine breaking. No breaks applied, Foot off gas. Does your car jolt/rock back and forth (front to back) under 3k RPMs? Diagnoses anyone?
    3. The car has been making a quiet grinding type noise when ever I start going from a stop and sometimes when shifting sometimes at low RPMs and I give it a lot of gas. It seems to do it more when starting on a turn. Ideas? My Power steering is full, oil full.
    4. Is there a way to check transmission fluid on a manual? I for the life of me can’t find a dipstick for it.
    5. Today I started the car and it made this really loud hissing sound coming from the middle of the car. AC/Heater was off. I got out and looked under the car, it seemed to be coming from the front half of the car. It Seemed to have stopped when the temp got to normal. Ideas?

    It’s a 2002 Firebird.
    Thanks

      1. Rotors probably, covered under warranty no.
Wheel bearings possibly, covered under warranty yes
      2. Depends what gear you have it in, if you are in a gear that is to high for your road speed you could get a surging effect. I don?t really understand you question though so this is a guess.
      3. I have no idea
      4. Yes you can check manual fluid. There will be a fill plug on the side of the trany, driver side probably. Take it out, put you finger in the whole, it should be at the top of the hole. No there is a dipstick for manuals.
      5. Vacuum leak maybe? I don?t know.
I have made a lot of money in my life, most of which I spent on cars and women.<p>The rest I have blown.

What did you do to this car??? I think you need to stop riding the brakes and learn how to shift. I know this is going to sound harsh but bear with me, its a 2002 Firebird! I worked on a lot of OLDER cars that had the same symptoms and its was eventually attributed to driver error. The surging is from driving the vehicle in the wrong gear and I would be willing to bet that the grinding noise that you describe is coming from the gear box. I have some questions:
-How many miles are on the car?
-When backing up, does the shifter sometimes 'pop' out of gear?
Either way, Geisencam is right. Get it to the dealership asap. Sorry if I sound mad but its because I am. I always hate it when cars are abused.

car has 8700 miles. I never went over 60 for the 500 mile break in. I did learn stick on this car so it was stalled quite a few times when i first got it. Pop out of gear? no.

I guess it doesn't matter want anyone says. You need to take it to the dealership tomorrow (or Monday, whichever is sooner) before it starts 'popping' out of reverse. If that happens, your really screwed! Forget to mention that you learned how to drive a stick with this car. Just mention the symptoms. Best of luck,
            Jim
