160 thermo doesn't do jack unless you tell it to, this means you need a jet chip with a fanswitch or the HPP3 which is not an option for you since you have a 99' like me. I say get the fan switch, then get the thermo. Fanswitch = results.Red 1999 Firebird M5
Whisper Lid,Borla Catback,K&N,Dual Friction Center Force Clutch,Hurst Shifter w/Lou\'s Short Stick,!FRA,Suncoast Ramair hood,160 Thermo,!maf,Chrome ZO6 Wheels, Painted Calipers, CIA Headers, Taylor Wires, NGK Spark Plugs, 3\" Catco, Jet Chip Stage II, BMR STB, LCA, PHR, SFC, Fan Switch, FTRA
Old Dyno Numbers: 183 RWHP, 217 RWTRQ
http://community.webshots.com/user/redsixer

Agreed... I got a 180 thermo and all it did was help keep my engine running cooler in cool weather... but when it was hot and I was stop and go or staging at the track, the engine temp still rose and I lost performance.
The fan switch allows YOU to control the engine temp. Running the high speed fan on my 97, I can actually SEE the temp guage needle drop when standing still!
Here are the instructions I used and some pics.

On an average, what is a good one going to run, plus installation? How difficult is the installation?-235/4517 Chrome Mondera Solaris
-Hornet remote start-keyless entry
-Pioneer 8400/CD/MP3
-2 Audiobahn 10\'s in custom box
-Flowmaster exhaust-SLP CAI-*180

Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity....Tony from \"Snatch\"

About $20 for parts for me, and it took a little over 2 hours to install, but I was taking pictures a lot so that slowed me down 1997 silver Camaro RS
|T-Type Powered|
Looking for a local F-Body club in K/W, Ontario, Canada?

ok I'm literate when it comes to electronics, but I actually never "worked" with it. How do I set one up in my car? Also I'd like it to be as painless as possible and w/o the dreaded SES light.
edit: nevermind I just saw the link posted above...doh!

I installed one in my car, made from materials from radio shack. Not hard at all, just a bit of confidence The SES light won't come on if you turn them off when it gets to a lower temperature. But if you DO keep them on, it will come on, but after you turn off the switch the light will go away in a day or two! My switch is right below the main cig. lighter, in silver. Looks sharp IMO This with the 180 thermo, and my car is always at a good temperature!RedLineVSix
95 Patriot Red Trans Am, M6, 3.42\'s,no rear tires
(SOLD!)97 Silver Camaro 3.8 Liter A4 3.42 + LSD, 1pc DS, and one messed up speedo :)
