  • 1997 Camaro Rs Starting Issues

Everyother time I try to start my car it just cranks. I then stop and try it again and then it starts, usually on the second try. There is also a clanking sound whenever it doesnt start. Once it is on it is fine.

Second from time to time my low oil light comes on and stays on till I shut the car off then it clears and doesn't come on. I checked the oil levels and they are fine, the oil pressure is a constant 60psi.

Any help on these 2 matters would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

There was a similar problem I had from timt to time where my car didn't want to start either. I'd crank it, but nothing. Some people here said it had something to do with the Passkey system.

I don't know about the oil light problem you're having because I don't have one in my car.

I really don't know about your starting problem, I'm sorry. However, I had the same problem with the "low oil" light that you are experiencing now. In my situation, the problem was a sensor that's screwed into the side of the oil pan (not exactly sure what it's called.) I replaced that sensor during the next oil change after the problem came up and the light has stayed off. I hope this has helped you a little bit at least. Btw my car is a 1997 Camaro RS also.

no man, I'm sorry I don't know either. We had just put a new engine and transmission in my car when the sensor messed up, so I just pulled the old one off of the old oil pan and tried it before I spent money on anything else and it happened to work.

That sensor is call an oil level sensor. I don't think it cost that much i think it is around $20 if not less. I am waiting for my next oil change to replace mine. My had 2 rods go threw it, so i replaced the engine and waiting until the next oil change to fix the oil level sensor.
