This is my first post here but I've been reading around for awhile. I just recently bought a 95 3.4l Camaro with 114k on it. It has ran fine since I got it and I was planning on doing all the standard maintenance things(oil change/filter,fuel filter, etc)but about two days ago I went to start it and it did nothing but click. All the lights and stuff came on but no start. You could hear the starter clicking though. It did this for three attempts and then started. It ran fine so I went to the local supermarket where when I went to leave it started fine on the first attempt. Now the next day it did it again but wouldn't start at all. Starter I thought, so when I got home from work I tryed it again for the hell of it and now there's no power at all(No lights or anything) I've read all the post regarding the security light but it never popped up, so it's not that. My question I guess is does this sound like a starter problem or battery? I looking for opinions before I run to a autoparts store.

Re: Starter or battery?
I am pretty shure it is a batt. or and altenator problem. My car has also done this, so i know what you are talking about. My lights would come on but my car didn't have enough power to start. When you try to start it does your dash lights dim. If you lights dim when you try to start it i would suggest a new battery. Also look at your battery gauge does that go way down when you try to start it? The reason you may be able to start it after you have gotten it going may be because you battery has a bad cell and you may still have a good one. Your altenator will charge the good one allowing just enough power to start you car.

Re: Starter or battery?
Alright well I was at Advance and bought a starter. I also borrowed a battery charger so I'll charge the battery first and see if that works. The battery looks good and has no corrosion but I'm unsure of it's age. If it turns out to be the battery then I'll just return the starter and buy a new battery, or just install the starter for the hell of it because the car has 114k on it and I'm pretty sure the starter in there now is the original. The alternator is supposedly new and looks new but you never know. Looks like others are going through the same thing so I'll keep you posted.Last edited by VTJosh; 09-30-2006, 11:48 AM.

Re: Starter or battery?
Alright, I think A1C_CHRANs was right because I charged the battery and it started but as soon as I shut it off and let it sit, it wouldn't start again. So I charged it again and it started so I drove it to Autozone and bought a new battery. Starts everytime now. Now my question is, how often do the starters go on our cars because I'm debating if I should just install the new starter and bring the old one back and get my core charge or return it for a full refund?

Return it, put the money towards the CAI you want.
