Trans fluid is one of the most neglected maintenence items on most cars. Most driving in temperature extremes, stop & go city traffic,& if your area is like where I live ,the interstates & other major hyways can turn into parking lots ,or move at a snails speed, definately change your old exhausted fluid. This takes a tremendous toll on the longevity of trans fluid & most of us drive in such conditions.I'd put in a premium quality dex.3 or a dexron3 that also meets a MerconV rating.Lubeguard additive is also good to put in at a fluid change, since its used by most OEM's & professional shops.
I have 37k on my '98 Camaro & have changed the fluid 2 times,& put lubeguard in both times. The car shifts like a newborn.I also put in a Long 14K# stacked plate cooler,& a Magnifine aux. inline trans filter W/magnet.Fluid is red with no burnt waxy smell.Since its one of the most expensive components on your vehicle, change it NOW,you wont regret the little bit of money it costs, especially if you've seen repair bills for a 4l60e.
