  • Massive Oil Leak

Just changed my oil yesterday, among doing many other general maintenance things, and noticed that I have sprung a crazy huge oil leak. It seem to be leaking above the oil pan. Could this be a bad pan gasket or my rear main and how much of a PITA is it going to be?

Also, I need to change my axle shaft bearings, any write-ups on how to do this?

Could possibly be the gasket. Maybe you tightened it up too much causing the gasket to split. Or the gasket didnt line up right and the screw went thru the gasket splitting it.

Or a double gasket. when you took off the old filter, the gasket might have stuck to the front cover, then you put the new filter on...voila...double gasket. Had this happen to me, and spilled all 4.5 quarts of precious mobile 1 synthetc...it was a sad sad day.

Could be oil sending unit just above oil filter or o ring in intake manifold where a distrubter would go if it had a dist. Bet you check sending unit and find it leaking.

Where exactly is your leak? At the front of the engine at the back of the engine??
