Ok, so heres the deal. I have a 95 3.4L.. i had the thing parked for the past 8 months or so.. i got it back on the road recently, but i get a check engine light after driving it. the time it takes for the light to come on varies every time i drive it. If im driving thru the city, it will come on after 5 mins or so. If i hop on the interstate, i could drive for over an hour before it lights up. it almost always comes on while im decelerating with the engine.. I'm thinking O2 sensors, but i figured id get some other opinions before i start changing things. the car still does, and has always, ran great. i religiously maintain the thing to the point that i change spark plugs and wires with every other oil change (overkill i realize)... this light probably is nothign, as it comes and goes.. its just bugging me and i want it gone. this is also the first time since ive had my car that the light has ever come on.. (had the car for over 4 yrs now)..

    Thoughts?

I would guess O2 sensor but why not go get the code scanned?

I'd say it's O2 sensors too. Mine did the same thing when I had one go bad. Replaced it just to find out ym cat's gutted :P. Take it to Discount or AutoZone and get it scanned, they'll do it for free.

i would get it scanned, but its a 95.. gm decided to mess with us 95 owners and keep the obd1 system in our cars, with an obd2 plug in the interior... paper clip trick wont work cause the wires in the plug arent the same and ive tried the scanner but it doesnt link up.. i work at autozone, so i hve access to all of our toys.. im also not going to pay 100 for a garage to hook up a dianostic to the thing.. id rather throw $100 at my car replacing parts..

Well, I'd say replace the post-cat O2 sensors. Drive it around for abit, and see if the light goes off and stays off. If it comes back on, take the old sensor you took out, and put it in place of the remaining sensor (not the new one). Unless both sensors are bad, and it is a bad O2 sensor, then that should fix it.

            Re: Engine light

i appreciate the suggestions, but im looking more for other answers as to what this could be.. egr valve? something else?

im not seeing a loss in mileage or power though.. ill prolly replace the o2's anywyas, since they only cost 20 a piece.. i wont waste my time swappin them since they are soo cheap...

i do appreciate the responses though...

            any other suggestions?

Hold up, where are you reading that they're $20 a peice?!? I just replaced both of mine after the cat, and paid $72 and some change for each of them.

different engine... different year.. differnt style o2's... not all o2's are the same... in fact, they can be quite different. my car happens to still utilize the unheated o2's... your car has self heating units... hence mine are dirt cheap... but yours tend to work better...
