  • Cuting out.... ?

I changed the fuel filter but still have a problem bringing the rpms up. I have to feather the accelerator very carefuly to get the rpm's to climb. if I press the accelerator normally she cuts out. I can still drive it but can't seem to get above 50 mph. and I have to be really careful or she stalls. Does this sound like an accelerator pump? the only thing that makes me feel tha it isn't is that I can't get her over 50 even if I do it very gradually.

No, that would be too convenient. :) The check engine light comes on when I turn on the key and goes of when I start it as if there's no problem. Carburated v6, 1982 SE

Accelerator pumps are in Carburated engines. Our uses fuel injectors instead. They may need a cleaning, throw a bottle of fuel injector cleaner in your tank and see if that helps. I'm not sure what's wrong, that's just my best guess. Also, check your plugs and wires, they may have gone bad.

Time to rebuild the carburator. Accelerator pump is not working properly. Chances are a whole lot of other things in the carb are probably not to spec.

You will be amazed by the difference a properly rebuilt and setup carb makes!

Does your car have a vaccum advance distributor in it? My 82 T/A had the distributor but it did not have vaccume advance. I'm not sure of the V6 though.

Sorry I haven't had time to come back and check for a while. Do you know where to get the kit? does it matter if I get it at autozone? Or should I go NAPA?
