ya know, i was examining it... i dont think a post whore is really the right name for you. whore implies you do it for money and/or drugs. and while that may very well be the case, i havent heard of it... yet. i honestly think that you should be known as a post s!ut. far more accurate. :D

now what i wanna know is, how come it bleeps "s!ut" but not whore? wtf

Is it an automatic? If so, you should see a little metal thing, right in the front of the shifter. Its like a staple and pulls out (use a thin knife blade), and releases the shifter from the shaft. If it isn't like that - I don't know.

I took the console out of son's car (97 Firebird) one time, and it - is - a - PITA. You have to take the shifter out, the armrest compartment thing (look inside for screws), and other obvious screws here and there, and then the PITA part is figuring out how to get the parking brake handle off - I can't even explain that one to you, but I have done it, and then putting it back on is just as aggravating. The only way that I can explain it, is that you have to go under the back, or lower end of the handle, and unhook the spring up in there, to release the handle - but be patient (unlike me) and you could succeed. Maybe you can get someone to video tape the the process for future reference - Anyway, then trying to get the console up and out of the car, and then back into the car, is where the fun part comes in. If I ever do it again, I am going to take one of the seats out, most likely the passenger seat. I believe that will make it easier.
              Good luck-

Thats what I did when I pulled by console out a couple of weeks ago. Actually pulled both front seats. I think my 99 console might be a bit different from yours because I didn't have to do anything with the emergency brake handle other that pull it up as high as possible.

I pulled it all apart because the previous owner must have spilled a Big Gulp Coke into the console. What a sticky mess!

Come to think of it, the brake handle in my 99 Camaro is the thinner plastic model, which you probably would not have to remove in order to take the console out. My son's is the thick leather type, and there was no way to pull the console up past it - because I tried. I forgot to mention that I also had to drill the rivets out of his brake handle to get it to turn loose, and then I had to re-rivet it when I put it all back together:tdown:

Were there streaks of a mysterious brown fluid on the carpet seeming to come out of the console?? My car has this, and has had it since I bought the car, my ex-g/f's 95 had the same thing and my friends 94 did also... what the hell is it? It could just be a coincidence that everyone spills their beverages in the console of their Camaros, but I doubt it since these are the only people that I know whose camaros I've been in, and they all have it. Anyone know what this stuff is???

Pics of the different handles? My brake handle on the Z28 is leather. I don't have to remove it to get the console out.

I had some of that also! Mostly the coke stuff though. But there were traces of that brown stuff. Some was on the carpet and some was on exposed sections of the tunnel around the brake/shift inhibit solenoid. It was also all hardened up and next impossible to scrape away. I think that it is some sort of assembly compound used by the factory, and whoever did that work wasn't the most careful.

Of course I had that brown sticky tar looking substance all inside my console and underneath the console (inside). Its probably coke.
What is that computer chip module looking thing underneath the console? Is it the BCM?

No, it's the control unit and accelerometers for the Airbag systems.

BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL WHEN YOU HANDLE THAT!!!!
