I did, at 7500 miles. I just let it drain for an hour(drip, drip) then finnished the change. Yes you will be fine to change. Only problem in changing oils is if your use synthetic then change back to regular oil. That will cause problems because then you will start to have oil leaks. If you go synthetic stay synthetic.

The change over is alright, just run an oil flush through your car for 10-20 mins. before changing the oil. The flushes clean out all the old oil and it's better for the change. They're only like $10 or so, god for peace of mind.

I had been running synth in my 97 for three years and it started to leak. I went and got a change done in the shop(i'm lazy) and went with regular oil and the leak stopped. I had 60000miles on the car roughly(100000km's).
I made the switch because synth is thinner and my guess was right.
Wouldn't it be worse to go from regular to synth in a high miles car not the other way around?

I threw synthetic in once (only time) at 46,000 and kept it in for almost 6,000. I just replaced it with regular and I'm fine at 54K

Actually the chances you will get leaks is quite low
Newer engines are made to tighter tolerances and don't lend themselves to leaking due to synthetic usage like a 10-20 year old engine might.2001 75th Anniversary V6 Pewter Firebird w/ Chrome Wheels, T-Tops, & Y87
Mods: Free Ram Air, !Silencer, Holley Filter, Full 3\" Hooker Catback, 3\" Cat
Best time: 15.095 at 90.00 MPH with a 2.127 60\'
