For the chain to make that kind of noise the tensioners must be worn.
Does anyone know if you can use a tunning program or scan tool to look for camshaft drift by comparing the camshaft position sensor and crankshaft position sensor? With any play in the timing chain, it would hunt around (especially at idle) with the power pulses from crankshaft. Is this detectable?
Now Playing: \'99 Pewter Firebird, stock, bone stock, and nothing but stock, so help me God!
Comming attractions: K&N Filter, Lid Mod, Intake Bellows Smooth Pipe Mod.
I dream about: Forced Induction (TC or SC) or NOX (or both!)
i was listening to the engine today, its at about 90,000 miles. When i start it up and let it sit idle, you can hear an intermittent clank, which sounds more prominent fron under the car. When you rev up the engine to about 3000 rpms and let off the throttle, you can hear it clank several times and then it will go quiet. If it sits it will klank a few times, go quiet, and then do it again a few times. Its not lound from on top the car, but when you get under you can really hear it up close. Could it be the exhaust rattling, im not exactly sure what im hearing.
Yea anything? well i asked 3 people what they might think it was , only one actually listened to it though , all of them said its probably the rocker arm or whatever....just thought id say
bringing this back for a useless update, but since people were asking.
i havnt driven the car much since. im going to have a closer look at it when it warms up. noises like this are still hard to describe, even with a sound clip over the internet. when i do find out what the problem was, ill post it up.
