• Freakish Gas Mileage

Finally after changing out my old plug wires with MSD 8.5MM's and adding new MSD Blaster Coils, I figured my gas mileage and my power would go up, but that was an understatement. I do indeed feel it has more oomph, not butt loads, but it's performing better. Now for the interesting part: I filled up on a tank full of 87 Octane and drove it softly with intent on getting hopefully better gas mileage, and at half tank on the next fill-up, it registered 294.5 Miles driven and took 9.144 gallons to fill it up. Boy's and Girls's, that adds up to 32.2 MPG!! In an automatic 3.4L in which I was previously lucky to get close to the sticker Mileage of 28, this is a blessing getting this kinds of gain. Is this abnormal mileage or what? Anyone else gotten gas mileage this good?

Change out a few more parts

Air and fuel filters
PLUGS
PCV Valve
Check tire pressure
Run a bottle of Fuel system/injector cleaner

You might get it up to 34..

Did the rest of that already....I did have to "get on it" a time or 2 in town on last fill-up because of traffic, heck I might be around 34 or so now (without getting lead-foot-syndrome), we'll see next fill-up.

I didn't kow 3.4's could run anything unless unleaded. Then again, I don't know anything about octane. I was just always told never to put anything except unleaded in my car.

so what all did you change out? i have a 94 as well and the gas mileage has been really bad lately so i'm trying to find ways to get it up. i may just try some of the stuff you did and see how that works. so what all could i change out to increase my gas mileage?

I just learned that 87 octane IS unleaded, lol, I'm dumb.

Anyways, help me out here, I would like change some of the same things that you did, my 3.4 is semi high milage and this should be done anywhow. I went to the MSD site and it reads like its in a different tech language. And how much did it all cost for you to gain that milage?

To get the mileage where it is now, I think I can attibute it to a few things, let's elaborate: K&N Intake (FIPK), Flowmaster Series 40 single in dual out catback, CATCO Converter, MSD 8.5MM wires, MSD Blaster Coils, Rapid Fire Spark Plugs by AC Delco I think.......so far that's it. For oil I run Valvoline Max Life 10W-40 and I try to fill my car up on Chevron gas if possible. Tires are proper size, GoodYear Eagle's. On the flip side of this, I imagine there are 3.4L's that no matter what a person does, the gas mileage sucks badly....this seems to be in a lot of cars from what I have seen, different makes/models, etc. BTW my car has 165,000 on the clock and still runnin' strong, KNOCK ON WOOD.

2 ounces of acetone for every full tank was reported somewheres on this forum to increase fuel mileage even more. Read this link carefully for added proof > http://www.lubedev.com/articles/additive.htm

94fbody, was that 32 MPG for city, highway, or a combination? If it's a combination, what percentage each, approximately? I have a relatively low mileage 3.4 5-speed car with all new tune-up items in total stock form. I've been averaging 300 miles per tank, or ~21 mpg with very little highway time. Which of the modifications to your car would you say made the biggest improvement in economy? Thanks!
