ok, here's my problem. I have a 1999 3.8 M5 and I've noticed that the car is severaly lacking in power, no matter what gear I'm in. Also, if I try to pass a car and press on the gas hard, the car bogs down and starts to jerk severely. If I get to speed slow and gradual, all seems to be fine. Any ideas?

The bogging down could be an o2 sensor or a clogged cat but the jerking could be a bad vaccum leak. Do you have a SES light? Maybe could get the car scanned. Could have EGR going bad too. Theres alot of possibilitys.

Thanks for the reply, I'm gonna pull the plugs and check them. I'm also gonna get a buddy to help me try to isolate the vacuum leak. It may be the cat too, it was making that horrible noise last week but has since stopped, it may be plugged solid too.....

Did you get anywhere with looking for a vacuum leak? When I look for a vacuum leak I like to use a can of carb/ckoke cleaner. Once you hiy the leak it will purr so nice for a few seconds.

Hey crushed......turns out it was the cat....took awhile for the SES light to come on but once it did, the problem was easy to isolate. I had checked the plugs, coil pack, wires, all looked good. thanks for the help.

The funny thing is, it took quite awhile before the SES light came on, I was getting worried. and you're right, I would have replaced a whole bunch of stuff for nothing. It's bad enough they tried to sell me a new cat for $857 too. I had to get the part myself and they're installing it.
