Okay, so today I got the bright idea that I would custom mount my amps to the back of the trunk wall and drill holes, well I drilled the holes and then mounted my amps and ran the wires later on I didnt know why my amps didnt work so I took em to the place where I had them installed. Well they tell me that I drilled through the gas tank. However when I drilled the holes I didnt remember running into another peice of metal. Only one peice and that was the back of the trunk, the screws were only one inches, how far is it from the trunk wall to the gas tank?!!? Also I didnt smell any gas fumes. Is it posible that I drilled through the gas tank?

What would drilling into the gas tank have anything to do with the amp not working?
When you say trunk wall you talking about the hump right above the rear axle, correct?~Derrick <a href=\"http://www.appstate.edu/~do54457/\" target=\"_blank\"><i>My Webpage</i></a><br /><b>\'96 3.8L V6 M5 Firebird Y87</b> | <b>162.8 RWHP</b> / <b>196.7 RWTQ</b> <br /><b>•</b> SLP CAI <b>•</b> <a href=\"http://tech.firebirdv6.com/y87.html\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Y87</b> Package</a> - 3.23s <b>•</b> 180º thermo w/ fan switch <b>•</b> TB spacer from DEE<br />1991 Jeep Cherokee Laredo 4x4

Oops, didn't mean to sound like an @ss when I asked that
I thought the place told you the amps didn't work cause you drilled into the tank.
To my knowledge its never really been confirmed about how much space is really in between the metal and the tank. To be on the safe side, most recommend not drilling/screwing anywhere near there. If you removed the carpet you'll see that there is actually humps like this
so you could screw into the humps and not hit the tank.

hmm, thought you put it on the top. I've never personally seen the gas tank, but it's supposed to have a shape like
so might not have screwed anywhere near the side~Derrick <a href=\"http://www.appstate.edu/~do54457/\" target=\"_blank\"><i>My Webpage</i></a><br /><b>\'96 3.8L V6 M5 Firebird Y87</b> | <b>162.8 RWHP</b> / <b>196.7 RWTQ</b> <br /><b>•</b> SLP CAI <b>•</b> <a href=\"http://tech.firebirdv6.com/y87.html\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Y87</b> Package</a> - 3.23s <b>•</b> 180º thermo w/ fan switch <b>•</b> TB spacer from DEE<br />1991 Jeep Cherokee Laredo 4x4

I crawled under my car, when he told me what I might have done and I couldnt see the screws because there is a plate seperating the tank and exhast. However it looked like a 1-1 1/2 inch seperation. Not for sure though. Thanks alot though, you have made my worries die down a little.

That's exactly where I put my amp. I was wondering if I drilled through my gas tank too, but I never smelled anything.

well here is an option.. though it could be considered kinda dangerous..
take the screws out.. drive around for a while.. see if you get an ses light.. I know that if you don't put the gas cap on tight it will throw a light.. well by having holes in the tank that should do the same thing.. or at least I'd think it would with 8 holes..
other than that I'm afraid there is no real way to know without pulling the exhaust off and dropping the tank a bit-Brad
