  • Removing Speedo Needles (HELP)..

Okay, so long story short im trying to install my white face overlays for my speedometer. But i having trouble removing the needles/tachs.

I removed the whole cluster, its sitting in my room, as i type. I need to remove the needles so i can slide in the overlays and connect the wiring. How do i go about doing this? do i just pull them out? there are tiny screw behind them but i dont think they do anything regarding this situation. Someone whos done this please help me out..

I highly suggest NOT REMOVING them! If you mess them up they are not cheap to replace and you run the risk of screwing up the whole gauge cluster.

Have you tried putting the overlays on with the needles in place? Thats how mine went on. I didnt have to remove the needles, they just slid over them.

Just pull them out. When I swapped my whole speedo due to it going bad a few years ago, I reused the needles. I was able to pull them out with my finger tips, or use some pliers. Just be careful not to damage the speedo.

Oh, one last thing. If you do decide to remove the needles, you will have to re-adjust or recalibrate the needles manually if you don't have a programmer. I took pics. of the needles on my old cluster to be able to know how they needed to go. If you can put the white face gauge over the needles, better for you.

yea, ive tried it. the bottom section of the overlays are just to long and wont go under ther needles. only option i can think of is removing the needles and then putting them back in. from what i hear 93-96 cluster removals are much harder than 97+. man, what did i get myself into.

EDIT: THANKS GUYS. NEED MORE INPUT THO, JUST TO MAKE SURE.

my car has the white overlays. seems to have been done w/no problem, except thetach needle fell off. When I got the car home, I just removed the clear cover, and reset the needle w/the key on. I'm thinking that previous owner jsut took a pic w/the key on eninge off to see where the all teh needles sat before doing the swap.
