I ran the same set of stock plugs for 80,000 miles, and with a 85 dry shot of nitrous through a couple of bottles. I did have to regap them down from .060 to .045 for the nitrous. Always ran good and started good. The gap was essentially unchanged after 80,000 miles of driving.

I switched to NGK TR6's when I went to a 120 dry shot, and gapped at .035, in order to light off the stronger mixture completely.

Now after racking up about 2500 miles on these new plugs, the car is getting hard to start. (as in it used to start nearly instantly, and now I have to let it crank for about 5 full seconds before it catches, so I think these colder range plugs are getting fouled with all the city driving I'm doing...)

i wouldn't necessarily go with what the builder puts in the car. i see a lot of dodges come in from texdot where i work, and they come stock with champion plugs, which are absolute crap. some times the builder just puts in whatever is cheaper to trim up costs and increase their profit.

that being said, i was running the stock plugs for about two years, then i got my hands on some ngk's. i like these a lot better, and coupled with some msd wires, you can feel a bit of a difference. not gonna throw you back in your seat, but you can feel it.
if they want to cut cost why would they put a $6 plug and not a $2 denso?

because they are not actually paying $6 a piece for spark plugs when they buy hundreds of thousands of them a day from ac delco

damn... when this thread was started I was still driving around in a completely stock Camaro trying to impress the girls in the parking lot after highschool football games... lol

I only remember ever hearing one mechanic telling me he preferred any one over any other as far as stock replacement and he recommended Bosch... for what it's worth

wow this is old, i wonder if spark plug technology has improved since then?

hey how do you tell if you still have stock plugs?

you really cant.. the best thing you can do is to pull the plugs and see what kind they are, if they are AC delco and look really worn, they are probably the stock ones

from what i hear, bosch are some of the worst spark plugs you can buy

from what i have seen with my other camaro, accel plugs will run good in really rich conditions, ac delcos will start to misfire if they get too fouled out
