  • Overheating and Oil Gauge pinned

My car has just gotten a taste of the fbody curse... everything seems to be going down all at once.

The few things I'm fixing now are a blown header gasket a problem overheating. My car doesn't overheat on highway, but once I get into stop and go, or anything slower than highway, my car goes up to max temp, then goes back down to normal shortly after. Not to mention, if I take the car out of gear, it doesn't seem to overheat as much, but that could just be me being crazy.

Also, my oil pressure gauge is completely pinned all the way to the right, and I get no reading. Even when I turn my car off, it stays pinned. Any causes of this?

For the overheating problem, sounds like there is air in the coolant system. Try bleeding the system. Do I understand correctly? You are driving your car with a blown head gasket? If so thats probably how air got into system.

gasket between headers is broken, not on the cylinder itself.

you will have to replace your cluster to fix the gauge problem. Check you fans for proper operation.

I checked the engine coolant.. it was damn near empty. I flushed/filled the radiator, and now I'm not really sure how to bleed it. Can someone help me?

I believe you have crank the engine and run the car with the radiator cap off. While the car is running squeeze the radiator hoses with your hand to push any air bubbles out. Once air bubbles stop simply refill the radiator with water and place cap on radiator. NOTE: do not do this while your engine is hot. Allow it to cool first.

you have to squeeze the hose?

its just a technique to move the gather air pockets out of the system through an opening like the radiator fill cap

alright, so got the car up to normal temp, opened the bleed screw from the hose coming from the radiator to around the thermostat... and bah... nothing coming... absolutely no coolant coming out.

                      Any ideas?

probably whats happening is the air is being released. let the car run for some time until a solid stream of coolant comes out. keep track of your coolant level of course. drive it around your neighborhood, then do it again just to make sure ;)

i just fill the radiator up, with the car on. wait for the thermostat to open. it does when the fluid drains down. the keep filling it up. after a few seconds it will start bubbling. then once it had stop for a while, put the cap on. and then i check it after a day or so and top it off. but usually it doesnt need any.
