  • Tach dies.....Need info........

We installed a Crane Nitrous Controller on my friends '96 Camaro today. When we turn on the controller the tach dies. Do we need a tach adapter? The controller uses the tach signal to turn the nitrous off and on at set rpm's. Any help would be appreciated.

The only thing that I would think would be happening is that the pulse signal is wrong for that controller. There aren't many people here using that controller so if you can link me to the wiring specs on it or send me a copy of it, I can look it over some and offer suggestions.

OK the nitrous controller requires a 12 volt square wave type tach signal to sense engine RPM. Can anyone help?

The tach does receive a square wave (digital signal). I'm not sure if it a 12v or 5v signal, though. Helm manual, anyone?

Where did you tap off the tach signal? The dash or the PCM? My guess is the dash... I'd recommend tapping into the PCM tach signal wire. See the Engine Tech for the wiring pinouts.
