  • SES Light, How to check for code?

Is there a way without using a diag scanner to extract the codes?

My bird SES light came on this morning, but just restarting makes to go off..

I dont wanna pay someone to hook it up to a scanner

On the '93 and sooner you can do an old fashioned code flash with the SES light. But after that they put in OBD I and you can't do it any more. You could buy a scanner, it would probably come in handy, but there is no way to do it with out one.

Are you sure?? i thought you could just put a wire or a paperclip in 2 of the terminals on the aldl and turned the key to the on position, but if you cant do it that would explain why i could not get it to work on my car, oh well i have a scantool anyway

If your car is 96 or later you have OBDII and you will need a scanner to extract codes. Good tool for about $150. For 95 and earlier, the jumper trick will work or a scantool for $25.
