What causes these things to go bad to the point they need replaced?

Chevrolet says I had one go bad in my S-10, and Its going to be $500 for one, and $700 for all four to replace. This just sucks...

I've never replaced them before but as soon as they told me that I'd replace them myself. Thats outrageous.

It doesn't cost anywhere near that for injectors!

      *UPDATE*

The dealer told me that one of the injectors had become clogged and had burnt out.

Now the interesting part, the cause for the clogging was the brand of gas I buy. I thought name brand gas was about the same in quality, but according to the dealer, Ohio has loose quality control laws for gas and that my best bet was to only buy gas from Shell or Sunoco. Has anyone ever heard anything like this before?

Dod you ever run fuel injector cleaner? I doubt it got clogged and burnt out, probably the solenoid just died... Theyre easy to replace, do it yourself for cheap.

Don't tell me that... I could've found a much better way to spend $800.

I rarely used fuel injector cleaner, but this weekend I think I'm going to buy a whole case of the stuff to have around.
