Ok, no offsense but you are posting MANY very basic questions.. you need to do a little more research before you flood up general tech...

secondly 96 and 97 pcm's are not the same.. 97 will work in 96 no problem but you can't reprogram a 96 with 97 code nor can you program a 97 with 96 code.

I should have another 97 3.42 pcm for sale soon

I didnt know that if i did a search that i would find peoples vin numbers and service numbers , is that pcm you have programmed did you ever tear it open or remove the chip, have you altered it in any way?

i have several pcm's where I've torn down and removed the chip.

It's not a moving part.. there is no "wear and tear"

It's an electronics device.. it either works.. or it doesn't.. no maybes.

i have a 96 i need the service number not the vin number, the service number is on the white tag on the pcm, i was told that the 97 pcm will work in my 96 so when i get it programmed i guess i will have to tell the person that it is a 97 pcm right?
