You still did it the long way....all you gotta do is lift up the top dash cover. Its only held on with velcro like fastners and you can get at the sensor without even taking the thing out.

Look at my link. I disabled the automatic headlights. My running lights are still funtional.
For some reason though, my headlight warning bell doesn't work anymore. If I leave the lights on and turn off the engine, it won't tell me like it used to.1999 red camaro v6 M5: with a turbo
13.52@107.99
No, seriously: Who Farted?
http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/600086

Please....just lift up the dash board piece....its the huge piece of plastic on the top of the dash board...just lift it a few inches and you can see the automatic lights sensor....all you need to do is tap into the two wires coming from it and have a switch that connects the two when you want to disable the automatic headlights.98 Bright Red Camaro
Too many mods to list....check my website

I just took off the trim piece around the vents/stereo head unit, and looked for a small box with two plugs in it. Unplug the one closest to the driver.
Start the car, get out, and make sure your turn signals are functional... if they aren't, you unplugged the wrong connector. Reconnect it and unplug the other one.
Once you've done that, you can now manually turn your lights on and off using the switch on the driver's side of the dash.\'97 Camaro: GN Turbo w/intercooler, 3.42s w/ Auburn HD posi, Bulletproof 4L60E-HD, stage II shift kit, Vette servo, MSD Ign, K&N, Ported TB/MAF, 3\" FlowMaster, 160* thermo, HPTuners v1.6
