  • Low oil light

OK here is the scoop. this morning I go to start my car (1996 3.8 auto), the car starts fine but my low oil light stays on. I says to my self this is a little odd because I just did an oil change last week. so I shut the car off and check the oil. The oil leval is fine, just where it should be. I then closed the hood and started the car again and the light acts normally. So once again I say to myself that is a little odd but maybe the sensor was just stuck or something. Now mind you the oil pressure is fine no ticks and the oil leval looks good.

Now this evening I start the car to go to work and the oil low light stays on again. I shut the car down and started it again and it goes out like normal.

So after that very long description of the problem here is the question. I am thinking that I might have a sensor going bad but I have no idea where this sensor might be, It is not the same sensor that connects to the oil pressure guage because that is fine. Has anyone seen this before? IS this a sensor? if it is WHERE Is this sensor. thanks for you help.

    Re: Low oil light

it is a sensor, and the only one going to the pan is on the drives side sticking straight out...you cant miss it. That should be the sensor you are looking for.

The sensor is right in the pan.

is that the same sensor that runs the pressure guage?

          No.

Pressure sensor(sender) is on the forward side of the engine beside the oil filter.
