  • Ticking sound coming from valve, evap emis CNSTR Purge Sol

    Hi everyone :wavey:

I have a 2001 Camaro. For the past two years since I bought my car. I always been hearing this ticking sound coming from the engine bay. Will last night when I was sea foaming my car. I finally found what was making the ticking sound. Is the valve, evap emis cnstr purge sol. I have no idea what that this means . My question is what does the valve evap emis cnstr purge sol do, Does the ticking kill my performance, and how can I fix the problem. Also if no one know what valve, evap emis cnstr purge sol is look like. I attach a picture of how it looks and were is it located.

    Thanks.

Valve evap emis cnstr purge sol = i think its also called the egr valve, correct me if im wrong, pic not that clear. EGR serves one purpose and one purpose only. That purpose is to reduce Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx). But that ticking is also common when you install headers. It comes from underneath the egr valve. Go to auto zone and buy a new gasket for it.

Hes' not talking about the egr valve. The valve hes talking about is bolted
right beside where the egr intake pipe bolts to the intake manifold.

Its called the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Solenoid

Got this with a google search: The purpose of the automobile evaporative emission systems is to
reduce or eliminate the release of vaporized hydrocarbons (HC) into the atmosphere. The major
source of these HC vapor emissions is the automobile fuel system. Though not the only source of
evaporative emissions (rubber parts and tires contribute), fuel system emissions are the major
      producers of VOCs.

Thanks for the describing what is a Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Solenoid mean caspernicus. I just want to know If the ticking normal or not in our cars? Would this reduce performance or not? Do I really need to buy a new to stop the ticking?

Ticking is normal. My 99 does it and so does my friends volvo. The EGR makes the sound sometimes and also fuel injectors can make a ticking sound.

Is the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Solenoid and canister one part? I have the 3.8 and I have reset the Evaporative Emission code a bunch of times. Should the part cure this? Thanks.

You are sure it isn't the lifter or fuel injector behind the evap valve? The valve isn't going to make a ticking noise, or at least I have never heard one here at the shop making any noises before. Usually it is a lifter or fuel injector making the ticking noises.

Has any one replaced the charcoal cannister to remedy the evaporative emissions code?

Re: Ticking sound coming from valve, evap emis CNSTR Purge Sol

If it is what I am thinking of, then it makes sense. When the car is off, the fuel in the tank is still obviously doing its thing. The charcoal cannister collects and stores fumes while the car is off. and then when you turn the car on. it sends it back into the fuel lines to be used. So I am guessing that the solenoid is what puts it back into the system.

I honestly hate anything to do with Evap and try my best to avoid having to work on them. So hope you find out what is causing that ticking and if you do make some progress let us know...

But I honestly doing think any of that could hinder performance in any way. And could you describe the ticking noise you hear? It is totally possible the solenoid is malfunctioning, which would throw a check engine light. and potentially cause ticking. And is that "Valve evap emis cnstr purge sol" the code you are getting if you scan it? Could you give us the exact reading from the OBD2 scanner when you check it next including the code number, usually P-followed by 4 numbers.
