The light turns on if:
-parking brake is on
-low brake fluid
-catastrophic failure of the brake system
Brake fluid doesn't just get "low" on its own. You have a leak somewhere. It needs to be fixed or your brakes may fail completely without warning at the worst possible time. Don't mess around with this one by putting it off.\'00 f-bird 3.8 M5 coupe, pewter metallic
Torsen LSD, Pro 5.0 shifter, Spec stage 1 clutch, Y87 muffler, aftermarket stereo
-more fun than the Oldsmobile it replaced...

Brake fluid will boil first. Could he have enough water [=bad] in the brake system that the level goes down that much when he got it hot?
Either way, any smart person would get under the car, check all the lines for leaks, and bleed the system totally. The performance of the brake fluid is compromised once you start boiling it.\'00 f-bird 3.8 M5 coupe, pewter metallic
Torsen LSD, Pro 5.0 shifter, Spec stage 1 clutch, Y87 muffler, aftermarket stereo
-more fun than the Oldsmobile it replaced...
