    Re: security light

A lot of problems with the security light being on is the sensor on the keys or the ignition cylinder lock. A great way to do this is to bypass the VATS system by going to Radio Shack and buying a 10K potentiometer for $2.50 Afterwards you want to go ahead and plug it in here.....

Where its circled is where you should cut and then plug the potentiometer by either soldering or with electrical tape. Afterwards get someone to turn over the key so you can mess with the small screw on the potentiometer until it gives out the right amount of OHMs.

Further information can be found here...

or just get a few resistors ( 11000-12000 ohms i think) and solder/twist and tape them in there. thats all i did.

There are several differant ones. Ohm out the chip on your key and that is what you need. When I put a remote start on my car, my key ohmed out at 1100 ohms, all I had was a couple of resisters that added up to 1050 but that was enough so I'm not sure how exact you have to be.

However, if your sensor on your key is messed up, you won't get a reading.

so what if the security light is always on, like mine, and the car never has had any starting problems? this light has been on ever since i bought the car and in the year and a half ive owned it there has never been any issues.
now that im saying this it will probably show its ugly head...
            any ideas?

the light is always on, from the moment i turn the key to the on position to the moment i shut the ignition off.
im going to check if someone else has messed with the wiring to the vats system.

I did the bypass and before i did it, when i put the key on the "on" position, the security light would flash. After i did the bypass, the security has steadily been on like camarojeff's car. I installed a potentiometer so I'm going to play w/the screw that gives out the ohms and see if i can get that light to stay off. It is quite annoying.

                        Re: security light

Yeah I ran inside my house one day came back out and my car wouldnt start but the security light was on. But it turned out that the wire that was connected to the ignition had over time broke off, but while the shop was replacing that, they also replaced the airbag because the coil was broke. So Im kinda glad mine came on for safety reasons.
