  • Diff. Ring Gear Removal

I can't get the ring gear off of my diff. I'm installing an lsd and need the ring gear off of my old diff. I have heard of someone pounding the thread screws. How do I get it off without damaging the threads. Please help, my car is without a diff right now.

Remember the bolts are backwards. Left to tighten, right to loosen.

Did you get all the bolts out? If so, thread a couple back in and hammer them out even to knock the gear loose.

ok I got it, instead of doing it your way and messing up the threads, I used 10 smaller screws and hit them one by one. It worked. Thanks anyway.

Did you mean put the ring gear screws I just took off back on for hammering? I did that to one and it messed up the threads. I used 10 smaller screws that didn't touch any threads. It came out and everything else went in fine.
