im new here and im not sure if this is the right spot for this post or not but anyways, my name is mike i drive a 2000 chevy silverado stepside 5.3 and ive been thinking about getting a V6 camaro or firebird for a long time now, mostly because the performance after market for my truck isnt that great, and also i think it would be cool to have a fast V6. now my question is will how much power will i be able to get out of the 3.8 without going forced induction or nitrous, and would it be worth it? or would i be better off just keeping my truck and doing what i can to it? thx for any help
First of all, welcome to the forums...And second off, what do you mean there isn't that much after market product for your Silverado? Maybe I missed it, but what year is the truck? There is literally tons of things you can buy to spice up the Silverado.
Though, a v6 f-body is always fun to own, and I won't try to talk you out of not getting one, they are just great. Without nitrous/turbo or anything like that, I'm going to take a shot in the dark and say with bolt on mods, depending on what quality of things you get......I would roughly say 255 whp. I could be slightly off, but that sounds about right. Good luck with whatever you choose to do.
i was thinkin the V6 camaro would be quicker after i did all the bolt ons port and polsihed heads etc, than my truck would be with the avaible options i can get for it

Plus the camaro/firebird would be more fun to drive and better gas mileage... with my 98 bird i get around 32 on the highway and 25 in town. Good luck finding one and welcome aboard.
Welcome future UK stars... Darius Miller, Deandre Liggins, Kevin Galloway, Josh Harrellson
if your going to tear into the motor and port and polish do valve springs a cam and tunning(rev it higher) your defenetally going to be over 255 with the proper work and proper bolt ons 300 should be in reach n/a, pump gas

what do you think this will cost me after all is said and done?
depends on what you can do your self i'd say min 2k if you do all the port and polish work and tuning paying for headers exhaust cai injectors possible fuel pump.
Well, while we're at it, let's go ahead and get the 4.3 stroker kit for the 3.8 motor. That right there puts it upto like 250RWHP I believe. Then add a cam and other valvetrain upgrades, intake upgrades, and exhaust upgrades and you'll easily get 350RWHP. Have fun with that though, since the 4.3 kit is like a $hit load of money.
I've seen people put turbos on those trucks and run 10's with them man, you can have fun with it. But, like I always say "It's fun to kick ***, but it's even more fun to do it with a V6!" Is your truck 4WD? My dad has a 97 5.7 Shortbed Stepside (they call it sportside or something) Silverado, and, IMO, my Camaro can hang with, if not beat, it. We haven't raced yet (I'll see if he will tomorrow), and he doesn't think it will, but I've driven both of them roughly, and know what they're both capable of.

no my truck is 2wd and i know its faster than the 5.7 they put in silverados, ive raced one and i took it pretty badly
ive raced a 94 3.4L camaro and i was actually surprised at how it kept with me when we lauched, launch but at around 20mph when i was approximatley a half car ahead it was like he hit a brick wall and i had a rocket booster  i dont know if this gives you any idea how fast my truck is or not
Silverado's are pretty fast stock. The stock air induction is pretty good, so there really isn't much need for an aftermarket air intake. That is, unless you want one for the minimal upgrade it will give you and the nice clean look of one.
Also, they have nice torque as well, they can smoke the tires rather easily and produce a lot of smoke. But, a big truck will never be as much fun to drive as an f-body, unless you prefer mud to street.

hahaha, no my truck will never see the mud, and yes it smokes the tires very easily :naughty:
Welcome, While having a truck is practical and benifical in many ways, you might go with a second car, a sporty f-body. Not only do they look damn good but they are rather fuel efficient as mentioned earlier, even with most bolt ons. If your going to dump 3-4 grand into it then sh!t you should be able to get a very
good sleeper going. I know you can clean vigerously but without a flow bench would polishing down be something one should really undertake? I keep my truck and my firebird, and thats recently came in very handy when it was time for a new engine and tranny. Now my shed has become a engine room lol. Its funny how fast these things creep up on you. It was just 3 months ago I got my catback and started modding.
damn i just got home from a car dealership and i saw a 1995 supercharged trans am with 47k on it, manual 6 speed and its 11k, i fell in love with that car but everything in me tells me that car is trouble though....i know its not a V6 i just thought id fill you guys in
Not much going on, replaced my Kenwood double din stereo with a Pioneer double din, the Kenwood had problems. Then replaced my power inverter for my reverse...
Hi all new to the community here. I have a 2014 RS 6 speed manual... and so about a year ago my tail lights got cracked and eventually the plastic housing...
