Rattling Exhaust Shield

So the shield on the lower left side of the engine is rattling and I can't secure it down enough to stop. I'm thinking of just taking it off completely. I haven't seen what all it's protecting or how far back it goes but would it cause a lot of trouble if I just took it off?

i finally got pissed with mine and removed them

2k2 camaro, K&N, SLP whisper lid, Konis, AEM, HP Tuners, Angel eyes/Halos, CF SS ram air hood, 4.10s, Zexel Torsen, UMI SFCs, CrossFire, BFGs, Gatorback, Catco, Flows, and TLC! DONT feed the Trolls!
