  • oil pan nut nearly rounded!

Well I just got my new engine and tranny installed and the damn mechanic apparently used an impact on my oil pan nut. Decided to give it a change around 500 miles as the old engine sat for like 2 years. Nut looks close to rounded! So should I look for a self tapping solution or try to drill it out? I have never drilled out a bolt before so pointers would be helpful.

id say file the sides down on like 2 sides and use a wrench to get it off

you can't get it unscrewed at all? even taking a vise grip or anything and turning it?

i dont think you should drill into the oil pan. try vice grips or go to sears and they have **** for rounded bolts

Okay problem was solved. And the vise grips wouldnt work on it either. This bastard was right next to round. I got a Damaged Thread socket remover set (which was expensive like 20 bucks!) but this worked great. Its got reversed teeth in it that bit into a rounded out head as you move it in the loss direction.

probably distorted your pan if he gunned it down too much which will lead to leaks quickly....something to look into

Why on earth would someone use an impact wrench on an oil drain bolt? What a moron

Man I gotta say I was shocked and pissed at what I saw going on with these bastards. I saw them tightening up everything with the impact one night when I dropped by. Yes I am worried about future thread problems. What really burns me is that I told them to keep the tubular manifolds off the 2001 camero v6 I bought and if needed have the muffler shop next door make them a y pipe that would fit. I got a 98 and its manifolds make plug change next to impossible. They told me "they forgot" and dont worry I wouldnt be charged. I made um sign a piece of paper saying they owed me 1 free plug change.

The oil change after a few hundred miles turned out to be a good idea however. There was small amounts of fine debris already in there. I think I will change it again in another few hundred. Nice to have a 14K engine and transmission in however, and since mine was a 98 vs the new a 99+ they had to chance out the intakes so I will be selling some stuff here soon.

I hope man, these guys were working rather late most nights and I even saw one of them drinking a 24, the one that looked to be in charge. I also seem to be missing some bolts from the plate in front of my transmission housing. I am going to take a picture of this tomorrow and see what you all think. It really looks like something that should have a gasket.

BTW Viper Yellow & Black = tightest color combo
