  • unsteady idle when hot??

i have a 95 3.8 camaro. sometimes after im driving it, usually when the engine is a little warmer, wheni come to a stop, the idle variates greatly. from like 500 rpm's to about 2500 rpm's, very rapidly. it'll go up and down about 5-10 times, then evens out to normal idle. any idea on whats going on??

    Re: unsteady idle when hot??

Well, I'm bad at guessing just by using information given so I'm going to put myself in the situation and think from there.

High idle speed or erratic idle speeds can be caused by a number of things.....
I will just list a good number and hopefully someone can elaborate on what the main thing could possibly be due to them possibly having had this problem before.

Sticking throttle linkage < Possibly would do it every time you idled not just some of the time)
    Idle speed out of adjustment
    Vacuum leaks
Leaking Egr valve < Would do it every time you idled, not just sometime)
    Plugged PCV valve
    Air filter clogged
    Head gasket leaking
    dirty or clogged injectors
    timing chain
Worn camshaft < Would do it every time you idled, not just some of the time)

Well, I hope some of this information helps. I will think more on it and try to come up with a specific answer. Also try searching around some more and see if you come up with anything.

The two that stick out the most to me would be a clogged air filter or clogged injectors because with the air filter, i did the free air mod. and as for the injectors, well when i bought the car i had to put a different engine in it, and this engine was from a car that has been sitting for a couple years, so i had problems with that when we first got it in the car. so ill try lookin at both of these things, hopefully that'll fix it. but if you come up with anything else, let me know!! thanks by the way
