I know it sounds like im a newbie when i ask this, but i cant find it. Is there a motor in the back hatch so that when you clsoe it, the motor pulls the hatch down tight. My back doesnt close tight, but it does latch. Im trying to figure out why. And if there is a motor its not kicking in... Any help would be greatly appreciated in the matter, thanks guys..

try what Dan Vincent said, it will work.
If you try to close the back window w/ both doors closed and windows up the pressure is too high to close the hatch w/o slamming it.http://www.cardomain.com/id/HiWire
1997 Dark Green Firebird
1997 White T/A

its not that the hatch is hard to close, its really easy to close and latch, it just looks like it needs to go down another half inch or so. And i was wondering if there was a motor in there that pulled it down tight, some of the older f-bodies are equipped with it.Pain heals, chicks dig scars, and glory is forever.

------------------------------
1997 Red Firebird with T Tops
Custom 3\" cold air intake
K and N filter
!maf
flowmaster 80 series catback
Accel 8.8 300+ spiral ferro wires
Bosch 2X platinum +4 \'s

Check your bump stops, on the edges... they are 2 little screw in things... they might be sticking out...
I think it is a combination of the air pressure and the "air pumps" that hold it up...
I have had a 2 4th gens, and had to do it on both.
I just shut it, then push down on the part below the wing(not the wing) to latch it the rest of the way...
btw, if you guys ever have problems with it opening form a hatch popper I reccomend the spring mod, mine only did it maybe 1 out of 5 times, but it was enough to annoy me and its a quick $3 mod to fix it.

latch connected to the car hase two or three screws in it loosen them then slide the latch down if you want it tighter or up if you want it looser then tighten them up and you chould be good1998 green camaro, bear rotors.
It\'s not how much money you have, It\'s how many toys you have.

thanks for all the input on this guys, ill try the doors open and maybe moving the latch down a little, its just frustrating because it leaks due to not sealing.Pain heals, chicks dig scars, and glory is forever.

------------------------------
1997 Red Firebird with T Tops
Custom 3\" cold air intake
K and N filter
!maf
flowmaster 80 series catback
Accel 8.8 300+ spiral ferro wires
Bosch 2X platinum +4 \'s

Some history:
The third gens had pull down motors.
The thing was, you were supposed to just close the 3rd gen hatches without slamming them and let the motor pull it down. But 99% of the people slammed the hatches down. The mounting bracket for the pull down motor eventually bent or broke from the repeated slams.I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

My 92 worked right the entire time I had it. But I wouldn't was paranoid about it, and wouldn't let anyone close my hatch.
On the 4th gen, you are just gonna have to loosen up where the hatches latches on to and the bump stops until you get it to latch tightly and tighten it all back up. It just sounds like its all out of alignment.
