LS1 MAF??

i might be in the minority saying this, but there is no reason to change a maf unless you peg, or max out yours.
but no, it is not direct compatible.

It'll plug in, but the airflow/frequency calibration is different. It will end up leaning you out on the top end (telling the PCM that there is more air coming in than there really is), which is not good.Wife and a dog, they both think they\'re Kujo.<br /> <br />1999 3.8 A4 Y87<br />Navy Blue Metallic<br />BFG G-Force KDWS 275/40/17s, <br />WS6 Wheels (17x9)<br />Phoenix Transmissions 2400 Stall Converter<br />FRA, Holley Powershot filter, Whisper Lid, Ported Throttlebody<br />2000 manifolds, Flowmaster, WS6 Tail Pipes, <br />MSD 8.5mm Wires, MSD Coils, Autolite plugs<br />Performance Cryogenics treated rotors<br />1LE Sway Bars and panhard rod, 1LE front springs w/SLP Bilsteins, stock rear springs w/ 3rd Gen Bilsteins, BMR STB, KBDD SFCs, 1LE rear lower control arms, 1LE front lower control arms<p>1968 Chevelle Malibu 327 TH350

ummm you have it backwards... if what you just said is true ( it leaning out ) then its not Reading enough air to feed the correct amount of fuel.91 Eagle Talon Awd Turbo 5 speed FOR SALE 6000$<br />Looking for a Fiero GT<br /><a href=\"http://www.swdsm.net\" target=\"_blank\">www.swdsm.net</a>

maf's do not have a direct connection to fuel.
maf read air movement, and use this to determine load.
Load is used to control the fuel, and spark, as well as auto tranny shifting by the pcm.

the "load" load as your calling it isn't actualy Load thats being read. Its the TPS. for a ECU to know when "load" is present it would need some kind of Power meter.
Maf Reads air flow and meters the air, ecu gets told X amount of air is coming in. TPS tells the ECU how open the Trottle plate is and adjusts spark and fuel accordingly to the meterd air coming in. I cant remember if the l36 does but alot of cars will Fully advance spark untill it starts getting knock, and then if it does it will retard timing agressively.91 Eagle Talon Awd Turbo 5 speed FOR SALE 6000$<br />Looking for a Fiero GT<br /><a href=\"http://www.swdsm.net\" target=\"_blank\">www.swdsm.net</a>

Your correct, the tps also is used to determine load. But maf readings are used as well, this is why so many people get lowered line pressure on their A4 (Ls1) cars, from ported/descreened mafs
I was just simply stating, that the maf is not a part you properely change to get a different AF ratio, and describing what else the maf does, other than Air Fuel.
On the last comment, i don't believe the L36 uses that kind of advance of spark. But not sure.

HPP mag used an LS1 MAF for their 400hp GTP. They had to recalibrate the PCM due to different reading values/frequency rates. DOn't have the mag in front of me, but it did need recalibration to usethe LS1 MAF.1978 Formula 461 in progress of being built

correct.
any maf an be used with any motor.....provided it flows the correct range for the airflow requirements.
you just need to program the computer for the maf transfew function, something that cannot be done, or easily done on a v6 4th gen car.

actualy the ls1 maf reads exactly the same, know what the difference is?
how much air is actualy hitting the sensors =)
DSM guys actualy make their Mas's less sensitive.
the only reason I know they are the same is because DSM guys also use the GM maf's in their cars using a DSM MAFT =).
you just have to adjust the maft to compensate for less air being read.91 Eagle Talon Awd Turbo 5 speed FOR SALE 6000$<br />Looking for a Fiero GT<br /><a href=\"http://www.swdsm.net\" target=\"_blank\">www.swdsm.net</a>

lord_gufi, thanks for catching that, I had it a little backwards.
There will be more air coming in than what the PCM thinks.
You'll be pulling in the same amount of air, but the frequency from the MAF will be lower, so the PCM will think that there is less air coming in, and put in the appropriate amount of fuel for what it thinks is coming in.
Down near idle, the LS1 MAF is about the same.
When you're running in closed loop, there wouldn't be an issue, except possibly the PCM throwing the code because the frequency from the MAF would be too far out of whack from what the O2s are saying the actual A/F ratio is (The PCM may think that the MAF sensor is FUBAR).
The problem would be at WOT, when the PCM ignores the O2s, and relies on the inputs from the MAF and MAP sensors. Using the MAF readings, the PCM would think that there is less air coming in, so it wouldn't put as much fuel in.Wife and a dog, they both think they\'re Kujo.<br /> <br />1999 3.8 A4 Y87<br />Navy Blue Metallic<br />BFG G-Force KDWS 275/40/17s, <br />WS6 Wheels (17x9)<br />Phoenix Transmissions 2400 Stall Converter<br />FRA, Holley Powershot filter, Whisper Lid, Ported Throttlebody<br />2000 manifolds, Flowmaster, WS6 Tail Pipes, <br />MSD 8.5mm Wires, MSD Coils, Autolite plugs<br />Performance Cryogenics treated rotors<br />1LE Sway Bars and panhard rod, 1LE front springs w/SLP Bilsteins, stock rear springs w/ 3rd Gen Bilsteins, BMR STB, KBDD SFCs, 1LE rear lower control arms, 1LE front lower control arms<p>1968 Chevelle Malibu 327 TH350
