How long does it take to replace an oil pan gasket?
How long does it take to replace an oil pan gasket?
My oil pan gasket was leaking and I took my car in yesterday morning at 8am to the dealership service department. They couldn't manage to get it done all yesterday and now he's telling me that they're having trouble getting it sealed and they *should* have it ready by the end of the day. How long should it take to do this? It seems like a simple job to me.
I'm really getting fed up with these guys, the service there used to be very quick but it seems like it has gotten progressively worse.

Re: How long does it take to replace an oil pan gasket?
^^^^^^^^^^ AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
it takes hours. requires raising of the engine or lowering of the subframe. its almost a requirement to unhook the tranny and I'm sure they did. not to mention the other things required. If i remember right, its like an 8hr job and can easily take more than a day to do if they have never done it before or are young/unexperienced
I don't know what problems they are having but I would be gracious that they are trying to get it to seal as best as possible. being a stamped pan, these things seal crappy...
Re: How long does it take to replace an oil pan gasket?
how its that possible, i unbolted my trans pan in 15-20 min and that was without air tools, why would you need to unbolt the subframe or trans, it doesnt get in the way of the pan?
Re: How long does it take to replace an oil pan gasket?
lol.
They did pull the transmission. It should be ready tomorrow.

Re: How long does it take to replace an oil pan gasket?
I just replaced my oil pan gasket and we had to unbolt the mounting bolts, Take off the Exhaust System, unbolt all necessary little things, then lifted the engine and this took me and my father about 5 hours.
