  • Salvage motor coming SOON

Couple questions on my new motor:
    1. 1999 Camaro the motor is from a 2001, will the tubular manifolds bolt to my Y-pipe with no modifications needed? That would be a REAL ***** since my exhaust is all welded.
    2. Motor has 37k on it. Will change whichever seals/gaskets look to need changing. What motor oil would you guys recommend? I will most likely not go synthetic since its a good bit pricier. I was thinking Mobil 1 clean xxxx for the engine + mobil 1 ATF (rated for dexron III) for the T-5. Also since tranny has 110k should I get Valvoline max life ATF?

-Any suggestions/answers/input would be greatly appreciated.

Is Valvoline max life the one that uses Slick 50 or is that Quaker State?
If it is Valvoline, then don't get that stuff. I'm not quite sure if it was the Slick 50, but I used it once and my oil looked about as bad as it did when I seafoamed my car. And it made my car run like crap there for a little while(needed to change the oil though)(Wasn't needed, but you can only run on Slick 50 for about as long as you can with Seafoam before you need to change it).

Also, why not just get a salvaged tranny? You can probably find one with low miles for less than 400 dollars (Not sure about ATF, never bought one or looked at prices). Another suggestion for oil would be Castrol GTX, it works pretty darn good, at least in my opinion.

Because nothing is wrong with my transmission. Why waste money on a perfectly fine transmission? I never had any shifting problems, etc.

Good point, I just figured that they would go nicely together. It's like changing the clutch when you are changing transmissions. But, not really since the two don't really go together in a sense.

It's like, why would a new engine want to go out with an old tranny, he wants something young and attractive, fresh meat so to say. :P

        Forgive my analogies, it's 3:45 a.m. :)

Yeah I agree I have to be at school at 7am and then work after that till 10 pm. A new tranny would be nice but I dont have the money right now and when it goes it goes. I won't be hotrodding this new motor gonna be a reliable car that gets me from A to B. Won't see above 3k very often. Gonna baby her and I have decided on all Mobil 1 lubricants.

Sounds good. If you are sure on Mobil 1, then good luck. I wasn't going to suggest it, as I have never used their products, nor have spoken to anyone about their products.

As for the Slick 50 though, stay away from that. I've heard lots of bad complaints about it.

Also, do you really think you will be able to baby her forever? I have told myself repeated times that I am no longer going to go fast, I am going to baby her, though it never fails I will want to pass someone and slam it into 4th and it's all over from there. :(
