Keith, do you know what belt size we need to bypass the power steering on the 3.8l? I run the shortbelt all the time on my LS1, but was wondering the size for the V6.
Also, what wire do I need to ground out to lock the torque converter up on the dyno?
ok the number is - 610k6
this is for the kelly springfield series

Hey Mike Malloy what size would that be? Or where could we get one of these 610k6 kelly springfield series? I would love to do that at the track. I mean I have heard as much as a 3 tenth drop with the bypass. thanks

hahahaha maybe .01 gain with shortbelt on our cars
Yeah that may be true. But we can hope. I mean all the LS1 guys I have talked to have picked up between 2-3 tenths. So we shouldn't be to far behind. I mean it still takes power to run the power steering pump. We have to get something from it.

You are not going to see 2-3 tenths on a LS1 car by simply doing the shortbelt and bypassing the powersteering. We have dynoed this mod many times and routinely see 2-3rwhp on various cars.
you can pick one up at autozone. your going to man handle the thing on.
also i was thinking of bypassing everything but the waterpump. for track use only. i bet it would help some..

I ran an even shorter 3 ribbed belt once bypassing the power steering and it was worth .0 and 0mph at the track. Absolutely Nothing.. I did many back to back runs with and without it.
In a straight line where the PS isn't being used, there just isn't enough load to bypass to see a gain.
To bypass the PS i did have to run the water pump backwards.

It is interesting that you guys are not experiencing any measureable gain from the short belt. I have been leafing through back issues of Hot Rod magazine, and in the October 2000 issue they feature a 2000 LS1 Camaro NA that they dialed down to a best of 11.47 @ 120.45. The last mod they did was put a power steering bypass short belt on the car, and they proclaim it was worth three tenths - taking the car from 11.76 @ 118.20 to 11.47. I found this hard to believe myself, but I figure a 3 tenth gain on an 11 second car is a LOT of horsepower. My 3.4 would love to have that extra power!
If you guys are seeing 2-3 HP and no ET improvements, I am perplexed at how they could gain three tenths.
The engine was turning 6800 RPM and maybe that's the difference. Agree? Other ideas?

Haven’t done anything on the Camaro, but put LEDs on my truck headlights . And my oil pressure sensor went out on the truck so going to fix that this...
