how to make an adjustible radiator fan controller. I know this version is for a computer fan but it should work with a scaled up power supply. For just a few bucks its worth a try im building one this weekend.

I really like that idea. I'll have to think about it some more after my exams, but I bet you could put the output of that transistor to a 12-volt relay (or the fan relay) and wire it to a pot mounted on the dash somewhere. Like the fan switch posted on this board elsewhere.

Very cool, let us know how it goes.

Using a relay would defeat the point the circuit slows down and speeds up the fan to keep the temp constant as uposed to the way it sweeps from 1/4 to 3/4(3.4) i guess it would still work but im going to try it the way the plans post

Ohhh, I thought you were wanting something that you could adjust manually the temperature at which the fans automatically kicked on. That's going to have to be a *****in transistor to handle the power of a car radiator fan. Good luck.

Good luck with your build. Just realize that a car goes through a lot of different temperature variations, unlike the original build idea for the CPU.

If I were you, I wouldn't try to get all fancy with it and try to circulate the bandwith of power you are sending to your cooling fans as it is really not needed because it will not hurt the cooling fans in a car going at full speed like it will a CPU cooling fan that is at a constant max speed. Having a manual switch to turn your cooling fans on is acceptable and logical. But, having an adjustable switch to control the fan voltage usage is a little far, but sounds like a good project worth messing with.

If I have read this wrong in any way, and this isn't what you are trying to do then I apologize for my post. :)
