  • AC Leaking in car??? Help wanted

The car, 98 Firebird has suddenly started leaking water into the car via the blower vents just above the trans tunnel. Water is building up somehow and when you go round corners is leaking out of the vents.

Is this likely to be the condenser packing up. Only happens when AC running. Heater part is OK and AC is blowing cold.

If it is the condenser is this a major major job?? Anyone have the instructions on how to do, from the full service manual or anything.
    Any help appreciated

    Thanks

there is a tube that runs down under the car from the evap box its probably pluged you can poke somthing up into it to try to unplug it but you have to be carful not to poke a hole in the evap you could also try shooting some compressed air into the tube that works some times. condinser in by the radiator the evap is in the pass comp.

like mentioned, its just the vent tube stopped up. you will find it outside, under the car/on the firewall where the box is. just a little black tube coming out of the firewall and hooking down to drain the moisture.

Re: AC Leaking in car??? Help wanted (Update long)

        Hi, here is the latest,
Took out the glove box and trim cover underneath and then removed the heater core cover. Ran the engine put on the Heater and then the AC.
        1) Heater core not leaking
        2) Can see in the blend air housing but no sign of any water inside.
        3) after a time with AC on water starts to drip and then run from between the blend air housing and the firewall. This area covered in a kind of spongy black adhesive sealing tape.

I haven't drained the coolant or removed the heater core as yet to remove the blend air housing.
From the Chiltons, it says behind there is the evaporator.

I jacked up the car, took the wheel off and I can't see any drain pipe coming from the evaporator housing which I think is sat above the wheel arch and at 90 degrees to the firewall next to the ECU. Not a lot of space between the down-pipe and the evaporator housing.

Can anyone describe exactly where the drain is or give me some more pointers before I have to strip out the heater etc etc. This water has to be coming from the evaporator as has been stated in the two replies, but I can't see the drain

        Any help appreciated.

Re: AC Leaking in car??? (Fixed)

          Problem fixed,

As you guys said it was the hole in the bottom of the evaporator housing blocked. Don't see how I missed it the first time but with the debris filling the hole it was well camouflaged. Pocked a straw in there and was rewarded with a face full of "pond water".

thanks again for the help and the pointers.

          Vic
