My exhaust smells like fuel

OMG...I can't stand the smell of the exaust fumes. i swear i smell it when i'm driving sometimes...My wife thinks I'm crazy and doesn't smell anything...(she also says she can't smell the cat litter when I can) anyone experience this same problem? how did you remedy?

What octane do you use? If you're running rich, you will smell it from the exhaust. I like that smell.

ok i had the same problem today. when im driving my car runs good its when i throw the clutch in it starts hessitating, missfiring, and i can smell fuel in the exhaust. i was wondering will changing the plugs make a difference? or do you think its something more.

My car runs really rich also. I dunno i burn through gas like a sonofa.. is this bad or not?

o2 sensors are a good place to start. I think you can take them off and clean them with carb cleaner, then put them back in, and you should start getting better air/fuel mix. Also make sure your air filter isn't really dirty.

(on the carb cleaner on the o2 sensors, anybody else try this before? I don't want these guys to try it if it will break something)

I heard that this can also be caused by bad plugs, wires, or coils because the spark may not be strong enough to burn all the fuel that is being put in your engine or something and that's why it smells. I think that's why mine smells like that. If that's the case you will backfire like crazy too because of the unburnt fuel in your exhaust.

hey guys just an update. i figured out what the problem was. well first off the problem happened at night so the next morning i looked under the hood and seen a vaccumm line coming off of the throttle body had come off. anybody know what this vaccumm line does. it goes from the TB to the passenger side valve cover. any ideas?
